Poured from 375mL bottle into a tulip. Brewed in collaboration with Scratch Brewing, one of my all-time favorite breweries.
Appearance: medium golden hue with a little touch of haze and a thin, fizzy foam head that lasts about two seconds. Though it settles into a headless state, there is plenty of effervescence in this beer.
Smell: nicely sour aroma, but not sharp, with a bit of sweetness that renders the whole thing a little bit candylike. Dashes of malt come through as well; I quite like it.
Taste: the sourness on this is quite strong, but smooth at the same time. Sweetness is a little less pronounced than in the aroma. In exchange for that, there's a bit of an earthy, botanical character; the label says this is turmeric -- right up Scratch's alley. For all its big sourness, there's a lot of subtle complexity in this beer; I really like it.
Mouthfeel: light-bodied, but quite effervescent. I think it works very well with the sourness.
Overall: I am really, really enjoying this beer. It's bringing me back to my trip to the wilds of southern Illinois last spring when I discovered both Scratch and White Rooster. Wonderful stuff.

a collaboration with local legends scratch, this is a wild saison type fermented in oak with fresh turmeric in it, and an awful lot of it to be sure! its a little orangey colored from it, but the color saturation is no indication at all of just how much turmeric is really in here, wow, the nose and the flavor are that wet carrot colored fleshy root, spicy and earthy, like a more dense and less intense ginger, woodier, muskier even, i never really thought about it in this context before, but its amazing with the wild yeasts, this one more bretty and funky tasting than it is sour like their delicious native estate was, and i think that flatters both the oak and the turmeric in here, it remains fresh in taste somehow despite the obvious maturity of the yeasts. the wood is a nice feature and enhances the turmeric for me, spicy and complex, i feel like turmeric is always put with other spices, but its magic on its own here. great carbonation, drying musty brett, rustic all the way through, simple in grain composition, really all about the fermentation and the turmeric, both brilliant and intense. great carbonation, super unique and memorable beer, neat that these two operations got together for this. we all thought it was awesome!
