Tasted on tap at the brewery in January ‘23. Described in the beer list as, "Collaboration beer with Honey Pot Meadery. A spontaneous fermentation golden sour ale brewed on February 2020 aged in oak wine barrel for 1 year and double aged in mead rye whiskey barrel for another 17 months. Conditioned since July 2022."
Light gold color; good clarity; tiny white ring of bubbles on glass. Interesting aromas are a clash of sweet honey and strong barnyard funk. Sweet honey flavor hits first, then sourness rolls in with white wine notes and just a touch of horseblanket. In some sips I can taste the rye whiskey barrel note in the finish. Medium body and carbonation. Light alcohol presence. A deep, complex beer in which the sourness helps keep it light and drinkable.
