2nd Act Beer

DATE: November 21, 2018... OCCASION: fresh off hibachi at Fujiyama's, we celebrate Shan's 42nd birthday by writing this beer's first review... GLASSWARE: Schneider Edel-Weisse pokal... pours a light brown body, stilled with a bit of effervescence, creating a thick double-fingered foamy head that recedes reasonably slowly... clear and attractive... a nice roasted draw emanates, with an alluring graininess... its chocolate is secondary, while its toasted bread malts suggest a meal in itself--a breakfast beer, or a desseritf? a bit of spiciness, like pepper and anise... its body is smooth, simple and swift, with an equally subtle finish... its strong malt base is sweet, warming, yet belying its 7.8% ABV... the coffee is more pronounced in its flavor profile than it was in its aroma, which is welcome... some toffee too, with chocolate maintaining its integrity... the toasted malts evoke breakfast flavors.... some fruitiness too--apple, pear, sweet yam--make this more than its initial impression... pleased I picked this up, as it embodies both the fall and spring qualities this weather suggests... a good introduction to a local brewery as well...
