A darker than dark Oatmeal Stout with complex coffee and chocolate flavours and a sweetness on the palate with a satisfying bitter finish. Maximum Moreishness!

Sampled at the 7th Annual Kingdom of Fife Beer Festival, Glenrothes.

Pours as the festival guide describes "blacker than black" with a bubbly tan head. A pretty nice looking one for sure. A very earthy, hard to place, nose. Some faint coffee and chocolate but the profound earthiness dominates. Some sweetish malts at the outset, developing all of a sudden to an assertive roasted malt bitterness with some coffee and toffee hints that leads to a lingering, gradual finish. Smooth and silky mouthfeel. A nice oatmeal stout, with a decidedly alluring name, but I would like a little more complexity. Nevertheless, a nice cask oatmeal stout.
