A beautiful brew from Polar Park. I hope they will begin to brew it regularly.

20oz pint at Arcadia, they being the local darlings and champions of Alberta brew, anew. Apparently this one was contract brewed at Yellowhead.
This beer appears a near-black, very dark brown colour, with some prominent red cola basal edges, and a thin cap (no complaints here) of wispy and faintly bubbly off-white head, which leaves but a few instances of remote islet lace around the glass as things slowly abate.
It smells of semi-sweet, roasted caramel malt, bittersweet cocoa powder, some robust yet indistinct nuttiness, black licorice, a hint of cafe-au-lait, and faint earthy, leafy, and floral noble hop bitters. The taste is bready and doughy caramel malt, a lesser biscuity toffee joint, medium dark chocolate, some candy bar-worthy hazelnuts, anise spice, day-old coffee grounds, and more plain earthy, weedy, and floral verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is quite understated in its wan-seeming frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and fairly smooth, with a pleasant airy creaminess pretty much there from the get-go. It finishes on the sweet side, all candy bar 'complex' in its bearing.
Overall - this is a well-made and very enjoyable flavoured porter, which thankfully does not delve into overly saccharine territory. Worthy of checking out, should you get the chance - I'm killing the last pint here, FYI.
