500ml bottle purchased from Warners at the Bay and poured into a Shepheard Neame pint glass.

Copper in appearance with a cream coloured head of foam that sat at about 2cm.

Interesting caramel aroma, really did surprise.

Nice slightly sweet malty flavour, barest hint of nuttiness.

Lovely mouthfeel, perfect amount of body to this ale in fact it seems like a bigger beer than the 4.0% ABV would suggest.

Overall a good all rounder. Difficult to fault and the only disappointment was not coming across this whilst in Cumbria a few years ago.

Brown 500ml bottle consummed during one of my 'random beer tasting evenings' just on its best before date.

The beer had an almost dull look to it, dirty gold/amber in colour, neat white foaming head on top.

The aroma was a mild citrusy hop smell, nothing much though.

The flavours were a pleasant blend of hops and malts. Slightly more hops, although the malts were more noticeable in the first instance.

Mid bodyfeel, nothing heavy but certainly not watery in any way.

An OK beer and above average in all aspects (apart from the aroma strenght).

Brick red-amber, perfectly clear with a rough, soft, thick carpet on top the color and texture of sourdough bread. Caramel and orange in the nose, with a hint of banana and some toffee as well. Fruity and interesting. Mellow on the palate, but pointedly bitter with a fruity, floral hop profile, very fresh and robust - you can taste the whole hop cone. Not to be outdone, the malts provide hearty flavors of grainy bread, nuts, and toffee. Fairly light and quite dry, this is a very drinkable beer. I'd love to try it on cask.
