Over the top cool spot. Oozing with atmosphere and culture, from the beers, to the food trucks, to all the art all over the place, the cool and friendly staff, the music, the cozy indoor space and the interesting outdoor space. Interesting small spaces and a funky/friendly crowd. This place is a must visit place if in the area and a very worthy spot to get to know if you are a local.

Worthy beer options abound on taps (30 of mostly their own flowing) and in a fridge full of tall cans and bottles.to go. Really enjoyed my visit here...go check it out if in the Phoenix/Tempe area.

Gave em strong marks for "Food" cuz...food trucks

Cool little place on the west side of town, near the river.small taproom with L-shaped bar that seats about 8 with some additional seating around the room, on the porch, and on a patio towards the back. A dozen beers on tap, and singles to go. Pizza truck. Friendly, knowledgeable bartenders.

I stopped in at The Shop while visiting Tempe a couple weeks ago. 10 beers were on tap on my visit and about 8 different cans to go, and one beer both on CO2 and nitro. There were a couple IPAs, a nut brown, a porter, a dunkel lager, and a fruited sour among others. The dunkel lager was good (and I was happy to see the style!), but the standout for me was the Kelp Salad hazy IPA -- really good.

The taproom is like a little cabin, or imagine a cool wood-paneled rec room in someone's basement. There's also a bit of outdoor seating if you're willing to brave the weather.

Service is nice up at the bar, quick and quirky. I also like that their menu clearly calls out the availability of half pours.

V-Due to some flight issues, I ended up with some time to kill, so I ventured to the Shop relatively early in the day on a Tuesday. As you might expect for the time of day, it was quiet, with just one or two other customers. The inside was pretty dark and pub-like, but there was a nice patio between the bar area and the brewery. The location is roughly a half-mile from the main Mill Avenue drag in Tempe.

Q-I tried two fruited sours (both kettle sours) and they were fruity and tasty. I don't know that I would call either beer complex or refined, but if you want a fruited, refreshing beer that would drink well in the AZ heat, you could do worse.

Ser-The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable about the beers he served. Pours were done correctly and in the right glassware for the style. I cannot say that he went above-and-beyond, but the service was pretty good.

Sel-The Shop had roughly 15 beers on tap when I visited with a heavy emphasis on IPAs (mostly hazy/NE style) and fruited sours. The variety made sense for a place like Phoenix.

O-I don't know if I would travel out of my way to visit again, but the Shop had good beer and a nice quiet vibe when I visited.

Small place with good service. The selection is small as well and there isn't any food except for a food truck, that wasn't there 4 of the 5 times that I went - but I always come prepared, when I know they don't have a kitchen (I bring a sandwich).

Stopped at The Shop Beer Co yesterday morning with a friend to use a Groupon on expiration day LOL!

Vibe was well...a taproom on a Saturday morning. A nice scoreboard with available beers greets you. A bar with seating for 10 or so is available as well as maybe seating for 25-35. Outdoor seating seemed pretty ample...my buddy used to live across the street when he attended ASU in the late 70's and mused how wonderful it would be to walk from there!

Quality of the beers were good. 3 out of the 5 sampled beers were very good (Church Music, Coffee Brown, Galatic Porter) with 2 of the bigger beers being so-so (FYITM, Dark Adrenaline). Tasted the DPA and The Nines which were 3.75 brews.

Service was adequate, a college aged gal who was definitely not interested in conversation with a couple of geezers.

Selection of beers was pretty good. I believe they had 12 of their own plus 3 guest taps. Also a few bottles were available as well as crowlers to go. I did nab the Coffee Brown to go and my friend got Church Music.

Overall get the Groupon or Living Social deal (2 - 32 oz crowlers, two flights of four -with four ounce samplers, and 2 - 13 oz brews for i think $25 or so) and go check this out is you like good fresh beer that is fairly convenient to get to off the 202 in North Tempe.
