On-draught @ Lineup. $7 per 12oz pour. "Session pale ale." Brewed with Amarillo hops.
Pours a hazy unfiltered orange of nice vibrance with a white cap atop of ~2cm height and ~7 minute retention.
Aroma is citrusy, bringing orange peel, fresh orange flesh, zest, bright floral hop aromatics, fresh tangerine, and tropical mango. Fresh and citrusy, suggesting a balanced tasty pale ale. Aromatic intensity is above average.
Taste is more tropical than the aroma suggested, emphasizing tropical fruit flavours: mango, tangerine, papaya, guava. Fresh and citrusy with a bit of an almost sour pithy twang. Pale malt keeps it balanced, but it does have a raw sweetness not dissimilar to homebrew pale ales.
More filtration would likely help liven this up and get rid of that almost sour off-flavour, but all things considered it's a rather approachable pale ale with some nice fruity flavours.
Nice flavour duration. High flavour intensity (for a beer billed as a session pale). Nice depth of flavour.
Mouthfeelwise is zesty, soft, smooth, wet, and medium-bodied, with apt carbonation. Not unrefreshing.
A drinkable debut beer from Lineup, but I worry their adherence to the unfiltered trend comes at the expense of quality.
I'm glad I tried it and it's an interesting pale ale, but Lineup may need to work out some links before their pale ales can go up against competition from competent more established local breweries - let alone cheaper more widely distributed out of town competition.
