Southern Swells Brewing Company

Storefront brewery in a large shopping center on the main drag, a few miles from the beach. Serious locals hangout. L-shaped bar, opposite and perpendicular to the entrance seats 8 with some tables about the room and on the sidewalk patio. Pinball machines in the back right corner just before th brewhouse. 20 beers on tap. Friendly bartender.

Good beer. Seem to specialize in Sours like Ink. Nice barrel aged selection. Quiet place no kids or dogs running around. Good game selection. Close to Engine.

 

A very chill place. Its near the beach but not too near the beach. Very heavy on the IPAs but when they do a stout its usually off the charts. Its for sure one of my go to spots in Jax.

Simply put, I was blown away. I had no preconceptions of this place but saw some positive reviews so decided to go while on a day trip. Great vibe; open floor plan but allows for some privacy. Exceptionally clean.
Selection (stylistically speaking) is pretty limited, but when you're as good at making NEIPAs and imperial stouts as these guys are, why do anything else? Every beer (all 8 of them) that I tried were absolutely delicious. Having 4 variants of the same imperial stout on tap at once is a stroke of genius, and all their NEIPAs mask their 8% abv wonderfully (needless to say, I had a DD).
Service was courteous and knowledgeable - and they know their beer is good.
Truly a "hidden" gem. I'll be returning every time I visit Jax.

By far Jacksonville's best craft brewery

 

 

 

Monday afternoon. Was quiet, maybe 5 patrons plus us. Had various IPA's plus a berliner and a coffee porter. The one IPA that I really liked (My Boss' Boss) was on the "do not crowler" list so that sucked. The 4 packs were wiped out as well. A distant 2nd place for me was their PDA, so I just ponied up and got a crowler of that instead ($10). It wasn't near as good as MBB but better than Karate In The Garage. Service was good.

Very creepily empty though. Huge space. I know it's a late Monday afternoon, but maybe they need to advertise themselves a little more.

Close to home, best brewery at the beach by far. High tables close to the bar and picnic tables, games and lots of space in the back. Private room for parties available. Truth Juice double IPA is the best double IPA in Jacksonville.

SoSwells is located in a strip mall of the main drag of Beach Boulevard. It has a nice strip mall store front with some outdoor seating present. Inside its fairly bland....small bar and plenty of table seating. The beer quality is excellent. The service is fine and friendly. The selection is ipa leaning but recently they had an English mild and Porter on tap so its nice to see them start to branch out a little bit. Overall its a decent place with fantastic beer and certainly worth a visit.

Great location in Jax Beach. Cool modern space with plenty of indoor seating and picnic tables outside for those nice days. Bartenders were attentive and knowledgeable. 12-15 choices of a good variety. Seemed like a good crowd. Would absolutely recommend a visit! Has to be the best brewery in town, maybe next to Aardwolf.

 

 

 

 

 

About 13 beers on tap at the time of visit, plus 2 guest taps with cider (Engine 15) or other beverages. All beers were very good or better. No dark beers but plenty of IPAs.
Fairly spacious, if a bit austere with a large glass window revealing brewery operations. Friendly, efficient service.
