Bottled December 2021
Pours a tan frothy 1/2 finger head with moderate retention, nice lacing, good legs, pitch black color
Nose brings nice peppery tequila up front as well as rich smoky peppery mezcal, fresh green pepper and peppercorns as well as the spicy smoky chipotle, under that is dark chocolate and roasted malts, cocoa, a bit of coffee, cinnamon and baking spices
Taste has more of the tequila and mezcal as well and smoky sweet chipotle peppers, lots of pepper between the chipotle, green pepper, peppercorn, white pepper, I think from the mezcal and tequila, but those aren't overpowering and don't destroy the beer, under all that brings more dark chocolate, cocoa, some roasted malt notes and a touch of coffee, fairly fruity as well like a generic fruity ester, baking spices and fair cinnamon, pepper and cinnamon heat is mild, a bit of bitterness, smooth alcohol warmth, thick chewy sweet finish, heavy cocoa lingering, with a bit more mezcal and plenty of pepper
Mouth is fuller bod, not super rich but full, a bit creamy, med fizzy carb, light warming alcohol, fair pepper and cinnamon heat as well
Overall quite interesting and nice, surprised how well the mezcal and tequila barrel came through but didn't destroy the beer, chipotle peppers were quite nice, cinnamon and cocoa were there enough to be known, and base stout added a nice, um, base. surprised with this and need to try more from them.
