Well it's not new that Hoppy Road is one of the finest craft brewery here in France. Nor that they make some world class Imperial Stouts.
This one is a perfect exemple of a modern Imperial Stout which shows great respect to the way classical RIS are made.
In this one you don't find any adjuncts nor pastry additions. Still this is a definitive gourmet ale.
33cL of fudge, vanilla, chocolate, coconut, light spices, wood and sugary coffee all coming from the malts and the 18 months in Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels.
This is perfectly balanced in every way. The mouthfeel is thick but not syrupy. It never becomes cloying.
As it opens up, the caramel notes come like waves slowly reach golden vanilla beaches.
With breweries as La Débauche, O'Clock or Hoppy Road, France is definitely a place to find some of the best barrel aged Imperial Stouts.
