Bought as part of a mix batt Steele four pack in Tremont on my way to MDI. I don’t know what the hop is as part of this review. Thought that would be fun. (Edit - this wasn’t a single hop brew after looking it up). Has this kind of cool murky depth in my oversized 24 oz mug. Like a brown core inside this haziest or yellow bodies. Looks almost like a sundae. The hops have an almost stone fruit pit bitterness along with rich, almost overripe mango. Heavy on the palette - nice but I’ll look forward to seeing what the hop is once I get off the island.

Pint on draft in a shaker at the GLB.

Appearance: What the hell is this. It looks like mango juice. What the heck? Looks like something from Gray’s Papaya.

Aroma: Also kind of smells like mango juice. Also grapefruit, maybe peach. Hops! Good stuff.

Taste: Grapefruit, (Gray’s?) papaya, lemon, tropical fruits, kiwi, pine, hops. Nice tropical IPA.

Mouthfeel: Prickly and IPAish. What you’d expect from style.

Overall: A kickass IPA in a town full of same. Nice addition to the landscape! Really look like a heavy fruit juice, too.

16oz can dated 11/10/18.

Pours murky gold with a short-lived head of white. Minimal retention or lacing. Candied orange with grapefruit and pineapple in the nose. Medium bodied with a creamy, chalky mouthfeel. Pithy citrus on the palate with zero malt and a firm, drying bitterness. Grapefruit, orange, and pine. Finishes with plenty of resinous, tongue-numbing hops.

A: Pours a super hazy straw yellow color with 2 fingers of head that fades down to a nice cap that leaves good lacing

S: Citrus, light pine, and some floral and herbal hops. On the lighter side

T: Follows the nose. Starts off with some citrus, herbal, and floral hops and then goes into a bit of muted malt. Some yeasty undertones. Finishes with lingering citrus

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation

O: Feels a bit muted, at least from its potential. Easy to drink. Better as it warms

I got this beer from Michigan Beeradvocate. The beer is 47 degrees and served in a pint glass. A gentle pour on the beer produced a two finger bright white head. The head is frothy and foamy with fair retention. The color of the beer is SRM 3 a straw color with golden hues. The beer presents with a haziness, probably from the yeast in the beer.

The initial aromas in the beer are citrus and grass. Additional aromas in the beer are grapefruit, pine, herbal, medicinal, and toasted malts.

The initial flavor is toasted malt and oranges. Additional flavors in the beer are grapefruit, floral, herbal, grass, medicinal, and yeast.

The mouthfeel of the beer is astringent and crisp.

The body of the beer is medium, high carbonation, and a medium finish.

The beer has a weak malt backbone. The hops in the beer are mish-mashed. Is this beer a NEIPA or a WCIPA. The flavors from both sides and the hops for me are fighting each other. I am not a fan of this experimental, it was a miss.

Cloudy, milky, pale orange color with a finger head. Tropical fruit and grapefruit aromas. Papaya, grapefruit, tart orange flavors along with bitter citrus rind. A little on the dry side. There's definitely fruit flavors but easy on the sweetness. Medium body feel with a slight creamy texture and spice on the tongue.

Found this in the back of my fridge, though it is only a month old. Psyched to see it :)

Pours a bright gold color with a 2 finger off white head that laces well.

Aroma is slightly tart citrus

Taste has strong hop flavor up front with grapefruit and nectarine flavors. Semi sweet.

Feel is lightly bitter and moderately effervescent.

This is a pretty damn good version of this series. A bit tangy and pleasant in flavor. Hope that they make it again.

Another excellent NEIPA by battery Steele. Date on can 8/15/18. 2 days old!

Look- hazy milky yellow with a nice head and sticky lacing

Smell- papaya, citrus.

Taste- papaya, guava, grapefruit, little bit of resin.

Feel- smooth, little bit of carbonation, dry resin finish.

Overall this is another hop BOMB made by Battery Steele. Great beer. I’m starting to think these guys are my new favorite! It’s great to be living in Maine. We have some of the best in the world hands down.

Draft at the brewery
Light fizzy head, super murky hazy orange color

Nose citrus, a little musty, loads of pith and rind, mild malt, a bit of generic tropical

Taste sweet orange, a little more rind pith, toasty grain malt and wheat, fair bitterness, a bit of tropical again, maybe some mango papaya thing

Mouth is med bod, creamy, good carb

Serving: Can
Canned: Jun-22-2018

A:
Pours a crazily cloudy milky blonde with a couple fingers of short-lived, airy head. Meh retention; faint scummy lacing. (3.75)

S:
Wow. Mango, guava, citrus, papaya, some very lightly roasty malt in the background. (4.5)

T:
Similar to the smell. Lots of fruit, but orange pith bitterness and a touch of pine take over from the more tropical fruits in the nose. (4.25)

M:
Semi-creamy body with a touch of hop burn, medium carbonation and a hop shellac finish. (4)

O:
A very nice NEIPA.
It pours turbid as could be with a little ivory head that disappears pretty quickly. The aroma is present at arm's length outside upon opening to can. Ripe tropical fruit-citrus melange. The flavor is similar but with mainly citrus oil and hop sap flavors up front and the sweeter, fruitier flavors behind.
I have never had or heard of this brewery before receiving this beer and now I am definitely curious to try more. This is a very tasty beer that I'd gladly sample again if I had the chance. Thanks, J Dilla! (4.25)
