In celebration of our second anniversary, we decided to turn up the volume on a fan favorite. Flume Cubed is a riff on our standard flagship double IPA- bigger, bolder and slightly more dry hopped, featuring Nelson Sauvin. This triple IPA overflows with flavors of mango, papaya, candied orange and otherworldly berries to elevate the Flume experience in ways one could only imagine.

Poured from a can into a snifter
Appearance – the beer pours a very hazy orange juice color with a one finger head of white foam. The head has a decent level of retention, fading over time and leaving a moderate sum of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is rather potent of a tropical fruit and grapefruit smell with the tropical fruits being a mix of mango, papaya, tangerine, and guava. Along with tehse aromas comes some sweet doughy smells and notes of oatmeal. Other lighter notes of melon and lemon are there as well, along with a touch of pine and some raw herbal hop smells.
Taste – The taste starts with a big bready and doughy flavor that is paired with sweetness of orange, tangerine peach, mango, papaya, and guava. There is also a rather sizable oat like flavor that gets even more potent as the taste advances on the tongue. Along with these sweet and malty flavors comes some hop flavors as well. The strongest is of a grapefruit nature, but some herbal and earthy hops are in there as well. The hops get a bit more intense as the taste advances on the tongue, taking on more raw hop nature, and with an increase in the sweet due to more fruit, one is left with a rather malty and moderately hopped-up taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body is thick and chewy with a more subtle and smooth carbonation level.
Overall – A bit overabundant on the malt and sweet in comparison to the hop and abv, but overall, pretty tasty.

Picked up a single can at Cedarville Wine and Spirits in Plymouth, Massachusetts for four dollars. My third brew reviewed from these guys. No canned on date that I can decipher. Good, very boozy.

Not bad! A bit dank tasting, but a bit fruity. Would buy again.

This one has huge complexity. The hops are earthy tangerine and leafy citrus chunks that become juicy and then dry. Bitter dry fruits upfront first with a long, slick citrus bite all the way down. Ripe melon rind pops out in the finish.

Found this one fresh, and it's the first I've tried from the Flume series. Perhaps I should have worked my way up the ABV chain rather, as this one was a bit rough around the edges for my tastes. Good looking murky pour, aromas and flavors are a bit sharp, but not with hop burn, and a bit of booziness coming through that combines with a fairly dry finish.

16oz can dated 12/9/21.
Pours milky yellow with a short-lived head of white. Minimal retention or lacing. Pungent fruit coctail juice in the nose. Medium bodied with a slickish, tacky mouthfeel. Clementines, pear, and pineapple on the palate with minimal malt or bitterness. Finishes juicy and tropical.

Drank from a 1 pint can purchased at Battery Steele Brewing, Portland, ME
Canned on 03/22/21
Served in a tulip
Thanks to my friend hopley for grabbing me this can.
The beer poured a hazy, glowing yellow-orange hue and was topped by a film of off-white bubbles that dissolved almost instantaneously. Tiny streaks of lacing trickled down the sides of the glass.
The aroma was super fruity and bold. Peach notes came through strong. Loads of ripe mango too. Quite sweet overall. Citrus notes appeared later. Hint of vanilla as well. Orange creamsicle perhaps. As the beer sat, cantaloupe notes were detectable. There was also a touch of booziness.
The flavor profile was fruity and excessively sweet. Super malty up front. Big candied orange presence. Both the orange notes and the overall sweetness intensified as the beer moved along the palate. Bit of overripe mango on the back end. The beer finished with more candied orange peel and a touch of lingering booziness.
Medium bodied mouthfeel. Perhaps somewhat thin for a triple IPA. Creamy and slick on the palate. The liquid contained a fine, moderate effervescence.
Flume^3 is a sticky sweet triple IPA that might be enjoyable in smaller quantities. On the whole, this particular style seems to excite me less and less over time.
