Served on-tap at the brewery in Northfield, MN.

A: Bright yellow with solid 1-finger white frothy head with good retention and ample lacing.

S: Aroma is bright tropical and citrus fruit with a lot of orange, pineapple, lime, and guava. There is a light pale malt note that gives it a unique twist for the style.

T: Flavor is excellent with a great balance of passion fruit, pineapple, orange, and guava with a kiss of pale malt sweetness in the finish that really elevates this beer for me. I do prefer this style to have a sweeter impression for what it’s worth.

M: Feel is on target for the NEIPA style with medium body, medium-high carbonation to boost drinkability, and an even finish with a little bit of dryness to also help drinkability.

O: I was really impressed with Tanzenwald Smithereen IPA — impressed enough to have 3 of them!! Great beer.

i had the wet hopped version of this with fresh centennial, and it was fantastic. i have never had the base beer for this one without the wet hops, so i cant compare, but its quite obvious these guys know what they are doing with hops. its built in the east coast style and has some haze to it, but its pale yellow to orange and bright in the glass, frosted not murky. i get some fresh pine and juniper from the wet centennial hops, which are loaded with lupulin and just bursting ripe in here, the essence of the botanical. the malt base is pale and light but might have some wheat in it, it has that dry cereal flavor and the round mouthfeel i usually associate with wheat. the hops are just awesome, well dosed and really bright. i get an orange marmalade oily character in with the more familiar pine, bitterness is mild, but there is a tropical orange juicy mango sort of finish to this, fruit flavors i almost never associate with centennial, so the base beer must be fairly evolved on its own as well. great beer from great people. i hope to try the normal version of this one day, but the wet one is amazing!

I just got back from VT and this is a great NE style IPA. Unfiltered, fruity, hoppy deliciousness! I had some great Michigan NEIPA's this summer - M-43 and Petosky Juicy and this is on par with those. Great beer!! Great style!

Hazy orange-yellow with a thin head. Smells overwhelmingly of passion fruit and mango. Taste is citrusy and the mango comes through again. Floral hops in the aftertaste. It's far sweeter and has a more mellow hop profile than the couple NEIPAs I've had, but the style resemblance is definitely there. Sticky, medium carbonation and heavier body. Overall, a great beer, but the sweetness and heaviness makes it a little too much for my palate.

This is supposed to be in the New England style, and it only kind of fits... but taken on its own, it is good. Into a shaker, semi-hazy smoldering dullish orange...minimal head and lacing. Lots of tropical/citrus on the nose - passion fruit, orange blossom, mango. Taste follows, though not quite as bright or layered. Wet and juicy, no bite at all, as befits the NE style...it is decently lively and there is a little hint of pith on the finish, though. I wish it dried out a bit more, but still...Lots to enjoy on this one.
