Belgian Pale Ale. Like a tornado kick from Belgium’s own Jean-Claude Van Dammage, this beer is smooth, artistic and has a bite. Malty with a hint of pear and strawberry from the Trappist yeast rounds it out.

At the brewery/tap room, served in a snifter. Looks good…clear dark amber-orange, a thin crown of tight white bubbles. Nose is a little underdeveloped and faint, but there are some bready malts, an hint of orchard fruit, and some yeasty clove-like phenols. Potential there, but underdeveloped. Taste…more substantial than the nose, but still doesn’t really develop any particular or distinctive profile…balanced, I guess, between some bready malt and earthy clove…not at all sweet. Mouthful is nice, light but substantial, and also oleasantly bitter.
