Appearance - Dark brown body with a slight amber-ruby tinge. Thin off-white lace.

Smell - Like a sweet coffee with a bit of hop without the bitterness.

Taste - Like a sweet coffee with a bit of hop with mild bitterness. Smell matched the taste for once, just sensationally sharper. Go figure.

Mouthfeel - Smooth, medium bodied, slightly sharp, not particularly bitter. Good.

Drinkability - One of more drinkable brown ales I've had.

Beer is still being produced in EL Paso.

A: Served mahogany color with a decent head that faded to good lacing.

S: Very mild aroma, sort of a mixture of roasted malt and nuts with a hint of sweetness.

T: Has a very mild sweetness with a mixture of caramel and malt. Quite tasty.

F: Medium body, smooth and creamy, well balanced.

D: Easy drinker, first one went down way too easy. Not bad for a beer brewed in El Paso.

Thanks to Dennis for bringing this growler all the way from Jaxsons to Ohio for me.

Poured from the growler into a unibroue glass.

Appearance - A rich dark brown colour, nice frothy head, the grolsch style cap did it's job on this one. Dissapates minutes later leaving a good amount of lacing.

Smell - Nice hoppy and malty balance, this beer has a very nice scent. A slightly nutty scent as the beer warms.

Taste - Soft balanced hop character complements the malt extremely well, this is one of the better American brown ales I've had. A fine example of the style.

Mouthfeel - This is where the beer really excels. The mouthfeel is sweet and keeps you wanting more as you drink further. Nuts, honey, slightly toasted malt, the carbonation is just as level as I like it for a brown ale. Wonderful!

Drinkability - Very, I could drink this again and again. I now know why my friend Dennis told me this was his go-to bar while he was living down there. I'll be enjoying this growler for many hours to come. It was definately worth the trip it took to get up to me.

Menu lists this as 4.5% abv.

Aroma: Mild aroma, there is a slight caramel note, but little else. It smells just like they’re amber. I’d think the waitress messed up, but there is a distinct color difference.

Appearance: Good collar of white on a hazy brown glass. Little spots of lace.

Flavor: The caramel comes through pretty nicely, but there is an artificial grape taste that is throwing the whole beer off. It killed a lot of my enjoyment of this one.

Mouthfeel: Light body with a fair carbonation level.

Overall Impression: Just didn’t enjoy this one.

Light brown with a light roasty aroma and flavor. Light-medium bodied with a nice light roasty finish. Solid but a bit light for an American Brown.

Per J's website: Brown with deep red hues. A medium-bodied ale with nutty and toffee notes, finishing smooth. Our brewers favorite and the gold medal winner at the 1997 Great American Beer Festival. Approximately 4.2 alcohol/weight.
