Because the world cannot live on grape alone, brewers of Clouds Brewing bring us a new jam; one made for from marmalade that that concord grape crap that Cracker Barrel tries to give us.
Blood Orange Hop Jam looks the part by pouring a foggy golden orange appearance before topping off with a foamy white cap. As a bold blood orange scent easily dominates the nose, a backdrop of complementary citrus, herb and citronella round out the nose. Moderately sweet with malt, the early palate is supple with fruit juices, light caramel and honey in a light shortbread kind of way.
As the ale washes the middle palate with citrus, the blood orange flavors remain firm while an undertow of red grapefruit, lemon and lime only reinforce the radiant orange flavors. As the ale starts to dry, the ale develops and herbal bitterness of verbena, sun tea, fresh herb and a hint of potpourri in the ales waning tastes.
Medium bodied and drying beautifully, the taste of blood orange is nearly seductive to the tastebuds while the ale trending crisp, refreshing and mostly clean with a medium-long aftertaste of curacao liquor and hemp.
