Serving: 650 ml bottle poured into a small nonic glass.
Appearance: Bright, faintly hazy copper amber with a thick froth of white head and good streaks of lace. Not nearly cloudy as expected for a “New England” style, but good as an ale.
Smell: Big blast of fruit; melon, papaya, berries from its hops as well as estery notes and spice from the Belgian yeast.
Taste: A busy palate with interplay between melon and tropical fruits; spicy, peppery Belgian yeast; and grainy, caramel malt.
Mouthfeel: Medium body with slightly oily, creamy feel and moderate carbonation.
Overall: Not exactly “New England” in look or feel, but the Belgian IPA comes through with plenty of complex fruit from both hops and yeast. Busy and a bit disconnected, but packs some big, interesting fruity notes.
