what a fantastic brew! a smoked gose with pine or spruce or something, there was very little information on the menu at bull and bush where i enjoyed this one on tap. pours darker for a gose, must be the smoke element coloring it a bit, rusty orange in the glass, average head on it, some visible density. the aroma is strongly smoked, campfire smoldering and german wheat together, earthy with the salt they use, and enough lactic tang coming through to still make it seem light despite the heavier elements here. the spruce aspect is awesome, if indeed it is spruce they use, definite pine needs complexion giving it a freshness and lightness and a cool wintery vibe. the acidity is great in the flavor, lightening up some of the weighty wood and iodine in the smoke profile, and helping this stay dry in the finish. the spruce is insanely fresh here, a highly herbaceous juniper property with in, almost gin-like, a neat counterpoint to the earthy smoke. this is so flavorful, it covers every corner of the palate with rich layered interesting character, pine and smoke together, lemon and hickory, brine and raw wheat, its really robust and unique, and is exceptional overall. what a treat to chance encounter this on tap!

Serving: On tap at Hay Merchant, served in a 10 oz sours glass.
Appearance: Murky brownish amber, short lived white head and streaks of lace.
Smell & Tase: Pine needles and wood smoke. Nicely tart, lemon citrus, rosemary, slight salinity and earthiness.
Mouthfeel: Light body packing plenty of flavor, slight oily feel and moderate carbonation.
Overall: Oddly delicious! Christmas trees and log fires.
