Somewhat clear and murky reddish brown with a big tan head. Smells slightly oak sour and acidic with caramel, earth, grains, barnyard funk, and over ripe fruit. Taste follows this theme, oak is felt more, with malt complexity shown off, funk is reduced but the fruits are enhanced, especially dark fruit. Feel is thinner than expected, oak and tart presence helps but want a little more of the complex malts to fill out more for greatness, but as it is, it is just good. Thought I would like this one better, but actually liked the blonde more, go figure. Both good beers worth your time
