Bright gold charged with a billowing head of white foam that rises above the rim of the glass, first showing off then fizzling away fairly quickly. Sharp clarity with a barely perceptible layer of micro-sediment in suspension.
Aroma is wine barrel forward, as advertised. Wet oak, red fruits, a slight basement mustiness of damp stone.
Taste is sour and oaky, lemon, sour white grape, red grape skins and pomace with accompanying tannins. Acidity is moderate, mainly malic with a tiny bit of acetic bleeding through, though acceptable. Light bodied and effervescent, finish is crisp and dry.
If nothing else, Afterthought is consistent. Here’s a familiar base wild saison showing off the Malbec barrel finish well, though not especially distinguishable from other iterations.

Clear bubbly straw gold with a bubble cap that fades into a collar. Aromas of redd wine, subtle smoky earth, grains, wild yeast, light bretty funk, overripe cantaloupe rind and flowers. Taste has more room for lemon, melon, and pear before lighthearted funk, wine, earth and grains bring it to an end, all in a very, very light complexion. Feel is has good funk, yeast, tartness and vinous textures, but also has lapses of watery body.
