Brewed for Orval Day 2022. “Ring of the Lake” is a Belgian-style pale ale brewed with Styrian Golding hops and fermented with a Belgian yeast strain and then dry-hopped with whole leaf US Cascade and German Tradition, and finally packaged with our house culture.

MMXXIV edition, bottled 2/4/24

Wonderful dry-hop and Brett expression, pineapple, leather, dried botanical herbs. Earthy Brett aroma, dried noble hop note present.

Very unique and a cool twist on Afterthought’s house saisons. Acidity is present, but mild. Not an Orval clone, it’s totally it’s own thing, and it’s fantastic.

As in other beers I have reviewed, I rate them as I do on Untappd.

The brewery says this is an Orval inspired beer. It's pretty close to Orval. The Brett funk is there. However, with almost all of Afterthought's beers, there's a lot of tartness. That tartness gives the funk a run for its money, and I sort of wish it didn't. I would prefer some more earthy, funky flavors. Also, like Orval, it's VERY highly carbonated. I know Orval is, but this seemed to foam forever. It wasn't infected. It tasted good, but damn...

Anyway,if you're an Orval fan, it's good.
