1L howler from Sherbrooke Liquor store - ya don't hear much about this contract brewing concern until they suddenly pop up at the growler bar there.
This beer pours a hazy, pale golden yellow colour, with four fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and chunky bone-white head, which leaves some broadly spaced mitochondrial lace around the glass as it slowly but surely recedes.
It smells of gritty and grainy pale cereal malt, a lesser edgy wheatiness, ephemeral pome fruity esters, and some tame leafy, weedy, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is grainy and doughy pale malt, wheat crackers, a subtle peppery spiciness, and more understated leafy, earthy, and musky floral verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is adequate in its palate-cushioning frothiness, the body a solid medium weight, and fairly smooth, with a wee airy creaminess seeping in once some time elapses out of the ol' basement frigo. It finishes off-dry, the cereal graininess predominating.
Overall, this is a rather sturdy and enjoyable version of the style, simple, yet endearing in its earnestness. Easy to drink, and quite refreshing, even on a summer day when the sun has abandoned us, in favour of a lashing wind and rainstorm. Ah well - glad to have another glass of this to wile away the rest of the afternoon.
