HighWheel Beerworks (Dorćol Distilling+ Brewing Co.)

this is an odd place. they are making beer and also doing distillation. the space is all time cool, really rad outdoor area with addition seating in an old freight container perched up above the outdoor area, a small inside taproom, hip vibe to it, with all the production equipment in the back. its modern but also sort of victorian, clean and different, really funky and cool, a really fun and interesting place to hang out. its a shame their beer isnt better. we had a handful in here and also around town when we visited san antonio, and truthfully i couldnt really dig on any of them. the ipa and the saison were downright bad, while the kolsch and black kolsch were somewhat better. it almost tastes like they are just fermenting out the distillers beer and serving it, like not much attention is being paid to the yeast and the fermentation profiles in here, it was all pretty sloppy. the ladies loved their cocktails though, i think all made from some kind of brandy they make in here, pretty tasty and inventive cocktail menu, and quite a few beers to pick from too, but we only stayed here briefly, cool as the spot is, because the beers was hardly tolerable. i hope they get their beer dialed in, its rough right now, but the space is awesome. i hope they have made some progress next time i am in town...
