Zorn Brew Works Co resides in the former P.H. Zorn Brewery Complex which began brewing operations in 1871. The storied history of Zorn lasted through Prohibition until operations ended in 1938.

In 2016, the some of the buildings were renovated and brewing operations resumed on the complex of properties at 9th & York St in Michigan City - known as Zorn Brew Works Co.

P.H. Zorn Brewing Complex comprised of 9 square blocks and operated a self-sufficient operation including all brewery operations, barrel and glass manufacturing, employee housing, underground refrigeration and spring-fed water supply.

The Zorn Brewing company produced soda pop during Prohibition under the name Zoro. The logo is still visible on the building today.

Stopped here for lunch and to try their beers. The brewery is located in a small, historic neighborhood, and the old brick building itself is a part of it. Street parking is all that I saw, and there was plenty of it when we arrived on a Sunday early afternoon. The place was busier that I expected. The interior has exposed brick walls and ceiling joists and gives a good vibe. There is a long bar with seating. TVs are numerous, and the music was fairly loud to detract from our experience. There is an upstairs area too, although it must be available only when the employees open it since no one was up there. Service was good from our server regardless that the place was busy.

There are 24 taps here, but 9 are for non-beer beverages under the Trip name, whatever that is. We ordered a sampler flight of 5 beers so that we could try to determine an estimated overall rating for their beers. Each of them was brewed well to style, and we ended up with a 4.0 overall average rating for them. The Dancing Jackal IPA stood out from the rest.

The food we ordered was good but wasn't anything special. It arrived at our table promptly. For the summer crowds there is a large outdoor space, and it looks like there is a bar out there too. This brewery is a worthy visit.

A nice new brewery and taproom, for Michigan City. When I tried a last ditch effort to see if someone would sell me their ticket to Shore Ice Brewfest and that failed, I ended up coming here instead. Looking back, I think that was a good consolation prize to come here instead. This left a good first impression on me, and I'm sure I'll be back soon. Parts of their brewpub were still under construction as of the day I visited, and hopefully those side rooms are fully constructed by the next time I revisit this place.

I think on the day I visited(February 2017), they were having issues from having to supply enough kegs for Shore Ice Brewfest, and didn't have as many of their own beers on tap as they usually would have. As a result of Shore Ice Brewfest 2017 being THE same day I came here, I suspect they had more guest taps being served in their draft lines than normal. Their Scottish Ale called Snowball was decent, and We the People(an IPA) wasn't bad either. Nothing that knocked my socks off, but it wasn't bad. Their food was actually really good, and for whatever reason that almost overshadowed the 2 Zorn beers I tried that day.

I'd rank them beerwise above Shoreline, as far as their beers go for Michigan City based breweries. Have not tried Burn 'Em Brewing's taproom yet, nor any of their beers, but hopefully soon I get to BEB to see how they compare vs. Zorn and Shoreline. Hopefully whenever I revisit their taproom, I notice more of their beers on draft.
