500ml glass at the new brewpub in Ritchie Market in southside YEG. A 'German Wheat Beer'. Ok.

This beer appears a hazy, bright medium golden yellow colour, with two skinny fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and creamy bone-white head, which leaves some splendid pockmarked limestone wall lace around the glass as it slowly abates.

It smells bready and doughy wheat malt, wet banana chips, clove and black pepper spice, subtle old-school yeast, and a touch of earthy green hoppiness. The taste is grainy and bready pale malt, an equal to the task wheatiness, banana bubblegum, banana pudding, muddled earthy spice, a touch of generic citrus rind, and a mildly estery yeastiness.

The carbonation is laid-back in its quotidian frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and quite smooth, with a pleasant rounded creaminess there from the get-go. It finishes well off-dry, nice and malty and fruity and refreshing.

Overall, this is certainly among the best versions of the style being made at the current time in our fair province, that I know of - it's getting really hard to keep up of late. But I suppose that I shouldn't be complaining about this burgeoning embarrassment of riches.
