8oz glass at Beer Revolution YEG Oliver Square. Created for or with (they don't know here) one Tofor Scramstad, a good friend and uber-fan of the brewery - and 'rogerdandy' on this site.

This beer appears a clear, dark bronzed amber colour, with one chubby-ass finger of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat creamy ecru head, which leaves some decent pockmarked limestone wall lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.

It smells of bready and doughy caramel malt, some earthy nuttiness, a hint of bittersweet cocoa powder, ethereal yeast, and some leafy, weedy, and musky floral green hops. The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, a lesser biscuity toffee sweetness, oily bar-top nuts, a faint black stone fruitiness, vanilla cookies, and more earthy, leafy, and piney verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is fairly low-key in its workaday frothiness, the body a solid medium weight, and generally smooth, with a thin airy creaminess evolving as things warm up a bit by this point. It finishes off-dry, the robust malt easily contending with any lingering hop bitters.

Overall - this mystery brew (not a surprise, really, as this operation doesn't typically adhere to established styles) turns out to essentially be a hopped-up brown ale, and a rather good one at that. For some reason, I was expecting some sort of sour, but am otherwise happy that this is the result.
