Our first barrel-aged beer from the Market brewery is a dark lager that was cool-fermented in stainless steel with Alberta blossom honey and bee pollen from Meadow-Sweet Apiaries. It was then aged for 9 months in fresh Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels. The techniques and ingredients give this beer dark fruit notes and complex salinity, with a warming finish.

2022 Vintage

Nice pop of the bottle upon opening. Looks great as it pours, copper brown with weak silky foam that lingers around the edges of the glass. Smells like a barrel and a brain bin. Tastes like a barrel aged lager. There are many layers here, its very delicate and smooth and finishes with a nice hit of heat from the bourbon barrels.

Will cellar my other bottle for a few years and see what develops.

375 ml bottle - from the cellar with a good 15 months of age on it.
Pours a dark brown, mahogany colour with a finger of bubbly khaki head.
Aroma is malty - brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, raisin note and the bourbon - a hint of roastiness.
Flavours of sweet toffee like malt, dark fruit, vanilla, and again notes of the bourbon and a touch of oak.
Medium full mouthfeel though slightly subdued carbonation - smooth with a warming boozy sweet finish.

Same vintage purchased Feb 2020. Perhaps a bit more fruitiness, sherry - softer booziness - still very good indeed.
