Double Hefeweizen

a style we dont see a lot of, and im not sure its a total success, my wife liked it better than me, i reckon it was one of their least impressive beers we had, but i remain intrigued by these in general, and appreciate the effort. the yeast aspect, which usually defines hefeweizen of any persuasion, is rather subtle here, light green banana or plantain, but its almost underdeveloped to me and this still has some sweetness in the nose, along with some alcohol coming through, a lot of hearty wheat, less pale and simple than many, more body and color, a double sure, but it seems to have more richness in the malt bill itself. there is also a new school late hop that comes up to my nostrils, faint coconut casts hawaii vibes, but its a little disjointed and even amateurish to me right away. i do like that the flavor is wheat driven, almost nutty to me, sweet yes but it works, the yeast is relaxed to me, a little soapy, it evolves a bit as it warms, faint white pepper, lemon, lighter than it smells to me but still substantial. light metallics come in with the alcohol later, which doesnt flatter it, and overall it just doesnt quite do it for me, the ferment is the main culprit but the overall execution seemed lesser than most of their other beers we had on our trip. neat stab at it, but this is a few tweaks away from its full potential anyway...

Love Hefeweizen in the summer. Came across a double in Hawaii. Had to try it. Did not disappoint.
