this is fire, one of our favorites we had from these guys, the star of our visit to the wonderful hilo location, one of the better fruited ipa types ive had in some time, really impressive liquid here. the palest of yellows, creamy looking but not heavy, short head but spritzy carbonation, uniform on the haziness. the tangelo in this is epic, identifiable as such from first sniff, but even more pungent in the taste, its acidic and sweet and even sort of bitter from the peel and whatever hops are in this, but i reckon the fruit is way more robust than the hops, it really is a lovely complexion, juicy and summery and so distinctive and bright, i cant believe how pure the tangelo comes through in this, and its not that sweet to me, definitely different than milkshake ipa listed here i would think, if there is lactose in this its subtle, although i suppose i can tease out a little vanilla as it warms. there is a cool up front pungency to the fruit, an almost essential oil thing, really appealing, its not overdone either. the hops bring lemongrass and more orange to the party, a hint of pineapple too maybe, and only light bitterness. the body is wheaty and even kind of raw to me, relatively dry, and smoothed out and kind of long, lots of runway for the tangelo. love the freshness and drinkability here, very tasty beer, one of their best for sure!
