Our only “double-malt” beer. The name, suggested by the poet Valentino Zeichen, conjures up images of the two-faced Roman god Janus, guardian of change and lifecycles. Brewed with a blend of carefully selected grains, it has a dark amber colour, distinct and harmonious flavour, delicate aromas and a thick head. It pairs wonderfully with complex dishes, red meat, shellfish and mussels.

Very nice Belgian style malty brew by this Italian brewer. The bottle gushed a bit upon opening and produced a voluminous head but it quickly dissipated leaving a thin sheet of lace. Phenolic aromas with a whiff of alcohol, not bad, but delivering big flavor and complexity on the palate. Malty brown bread flavor, some raisin and plum, vague spice and nuts, again some alcohol present in an appealing way, a suggestion of bittersweet chocolate and trace bitterness on the finish. Medium bodied with medium to low carbonation for the style - smooth and somewhat surprising given the initial gaseous burst from the bottle. This was highly enjoyable.

11.2oz bottle. Poured out a clear, golden burgundy color with a small, khaki-colored head of foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass. It smelled of toffee, caramel and roasted malt. Sweet caramel and toffee taste with fruity notes. Mild bitterness.

Brown color, a bit muddy. Light brown, decent head.
In the smell dark malts, dark candy sugar, light fruitiness. After all, quite balanced.
Balanced taste too, between malt, dark malts, dry fruit, candy sugar.
Dry fruit in the aftertaste, with a relatively dry finish.
Alcohol hidden. Good.
