Another review from the Bistro's 9th annual double ipa festival held on February 7, 2009 in Hayward, CA. 100 ibu.

Another amber colored ipa from this era. I think it went from amber, to orange, to yellow over the last decade. This is one that brags on having eight different malts in an ipa, the times have changed to say the least. Relatively thin head 1/4" off white. Aroma didn't pop like Citra dry hopped beers do today, I don't think they used much, and it was no match for the "eight different malts".

Taste did have a little bit of that citrus feel to it, Mandarina hops helped the Citra, although the Calypso gave it a generic bitterness. So basically a lot of caramel, then some dull citrus non grapefruit kind of notes to it. This one did get a little sticky and heavy, a lot of the maltier beers that day seemed to have more carbonation than this one. I always dig when people say 100ibu has almost no bitterness. Lulz.

Dark ruby amber color with a sticky off white head. Tangerine/lychee aroma. Sweet candied citrus flavor, fresh squeezed orange juice, iced tea. Almost no bitterness. Too sweet for the style. Decent mouthfeel, unastringent and for the most part, drinkable.
