Poured on tap at the brewpub, the beer is jet black, with a foamy, smooth, clingy, dark tan head. Aromas of mocha and bittersweet chocolate, with some cream highlights. Flavors are roasted and bitter coffee forward, with some sweet cream highlights and hints of vanilla. Smooth and robust in mouth, and well balanced throughout. The aftertaste is more coffee and chocolate, with a bitter roasted and semisweet linger. Smooth, sweet lingering finish.

Appearance: Black body with ruby hints at its edges and topped by a small, light beige head.

Smell: Straightforward aroma of baker's chocolate, licorice, and a touch of oats.

Taste: Light baker's chocolate flavor with some roasted malts. Subtle sweetness. Hint of licorice. A little roasty bitterness kicks in and holds till the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation. Relatively creamy mouthfeel.

Drinkability: Decent a humble, mild-mannered oatmeal stout.

Im not sure if it is the ingredients or the fact that the beers are always served in cold mugs, but there is rarely any head and if so, it leaves immediately. The beer is not opaque either, which is usually a characteristic of a stout. It is a very dark brown or maroon color. Not much as far as smell on this. The taste is a bit weird; kind of sweet yet a bit sour or spoiled, and very think on the tongue and mouth. The first time I had this beer I quite enjoyed it. But each successive time, the beer decreased in flavor and overall appeal.
