Picked this up a while ago at Five Boroughs, finally getting around to it tonight. The date on the bottom of the can read 10/18 of last year, with #DRINKTHELOCAL written underneath it. Given that one has to take a local train on the Subway to get to 5 Boroughs, this was a nice touch for a locally brewed beer. Not a lot about this stood out to me but the taste was true to form and sufficient enough to enjoy without feeling gimmicky at all.
Not a bad pour to this as the beer was somewhat hazy apricot, with plenty of head and a few rings of soapy lacing left behind. Plenty of tropical fruits, pineapple, booze, and solvent in the nose with all of those in the taste. Slick and full of resin, the hops were quite earthy and subdued on top of that. Moderate dankness and enough heft were found here as this wasn't a fast sipper but had quite the tropical feel, to tie everything in together. Stone fruit lingered throughout as this was quite syrupy and heavy on the palate.
The amount of alcohol was on par with the flavor profile as a warming effect took hold on me. Not a bad first impression by these guys and a bit different than the hazy juice bombs that characterizes beers of this style from these parts. Worth a go for something different and of course, something local!
