First brewed in the early 1800’s, Vienna and Marzen style lagers were unique and cutting edge styles of beer. New technology was sweeping across Europe which would allow brewers and maltsters to create lightly caramelized, clean, and delicious malt which was no longer dried over wood fired kilns. Vienna lager is characteristically light and malty with a copper hue and a restrained, noble bitterness. It has a refreshing balance of simple and rich ingredients which make it the ‘comfort food’ of beers.

Behind The Name
The Rhine Rift Valley originates in the Swiss Alps and runs between Germany’s Black Forest and the French border. It was formed along with the Alps when Africa collided with Europe during the early Cenozoic Era. The Rhine Rift Valley was the source of the most significant seismological event in central Europe on record, and it has shaped the history and landscape of Germany and Europe for thousands of years. Taking inspiration from this naturally beautiful and historic location & beer style, Rhine Rift Vienna lager was artfully crafted to give new life to this “old-world” classic with the best “new-age” brewing technology and technique in Northern California.
