A seasonal variation on our Kapitän Altbier, this sticke version (German for secret and pronounced schtick-uh) is traditionally released in the fall only for regulars and those in the know. It's a slightly stronger, hoppier, and maltier version of the regular copper-colored Alt!

Nice crisp alt beer with enough complexity to be interesting.

Clear acorn varnish with a tall, light khaki foam leaving spongy pock mark lace curtains.

This has a faint hint of banana esters and light brown toast in aroma, before notes of grass and wheat, while it's more bready in taste, and also slightly bitter with a bit of woodiness.

The medium body has a soft crispness and finishes semi-dry.

This version I am drinking is only 5.5%ABV, as the brewery appears to have slightly revamped the recipe. Got a growler of this earlier tonight when I stopped by the brewery. Poured into my stange glass, this beer is a clear medium copper/dark amber color with lots of streams of little bubbles fairly rapidly and continuously rising to the beer's surface. Has a white head that's well over an inch thick when first poured that settles eventually to a thick white ring of foam surrounding the inside of the glass at the beer's surface, along with some big cluster swirls of film layers of surface foam and good lacing. Aromas of toasted, bready, caramel malt sweetness along with a bit of nuttiness. Rounds out with an earthy, slightly piney hop smell. The taste is pretty much the same, with toasted, bready caramel malt sweetness that gives way to a bit of roasted nuttiness along with slight hints of banana and chocolate. Has a crisp, yet smooth, medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Has a clean finish with a nice malty after taste. A very enjoyable beer here overall.

I love this beer. The hoppiness makes it stand out from other alts I've tried. Not hoppy like an IBU monster, but a well crafted, crisp hop taste on top of the expected malty flavor. The best alt I've had on tap. (I've never been to Germany.)
