A dark chill haze brown clears up as the chill wears off, appearing more as burnt cherry wood to garnet with a moderate tan foam head settling damn near to a wine-like surface, but for some clear bubbles.
Toasted pumpernickel pairs with dates, red grapes and dark cherries, coming back to a darker bready exhale. Despite all the fruity esters, the finish is actually semi-bitter, like roasted nuts with a little char on them. A hint of cocoa develops mid-palate as it warms, and I also detect a distinct amaretto note that, after sitting in the can a few months (notating this in particular after my fourth and final can), seems to amplify a little heat within.
The medium body starts with a sharp carbonation that quickly fluffs up and firmly expands before coming to a semi-dry finish that's lightly warming.
Bold yet balanced. Deep and refined. Prognosticator is a wonderful representation of the style.
