Picked this up last week at the Bottle King in Livingston, as I never saw this beer before nor have had anything from Last Wave. I'm not an expert on this style as this is only the second Brut IPA that I've ever had, but I enjoyed this and how nicely it was crafted. It helped that Icarus had a hand in this, as they've become one of my go-to places to buy beer from here in New Jersey, but this was a wonderful example of the style that got better as it warmed up!
Of course, this had a blonde appearance to it that was timid, translucent, and topped off with a head full of big bubbles that settled quickly. Only a few dots of lacing were left behind as I worked my way through this with the consistency of the beer being relatively thin. Lots of Hallertau Hops, earthy tangerine, white chocolate sweetness, and champagne in the muted nose as the taste was dry in taste but not dry on the palate. Some dank grapefruit and deep forest emerged on the palate but overall, this was a great example of the style that had a nice funky feet undertone to it and a few bits of dark sediment that settled to the bottom upon pouring the last contents of the can out.
The alcohol was spot-on, the carbonation lively, and the body not to terribly heavy as this had a nice balance to it. Canned on 12/16 of last year with "3 DOPE BEERS IN A PINT GLASS" written below it, this was a solid take on the style that deserved to be rated and reviewed more on here. Beers like this don't come around often and not just because this was a rare style. This had me wanting to give more Brut IPA's a go, as I'd easily reach for this again. Indeed, I had a ball with this!
