DDH West Coast Rye IPA w/ @freestylehops Nelson hops! // Our Lead Brewer Ian from our Costa Mesa spot dreamt this one up, as a nod to the legendary the OG Alpine Nelson that we all fell in love with years ago. Sitting on a simple bed of Pilsner and Rye Malt, the hops are wonderfully expressive with all the New Zealand love we could ask for. Tasting notes? Think NZ Sauv Blanc, Cotton Candy, Orange Blossom, and pink grapefruit.

This is good stuff and has righteous bitterness to boot. Love the rye in this and it’s so good on the tongue. Wifey didn’t like it. I liked it a lot and it’s the FRESHEST beer I ever had. 4/11/23 so 11 days old. Reminds me of a Leo VS Ursus in the series that was a rye and it is memorable. From Firestone-Walker. I can’t really pick out the Nelson for the rye. So I’ve heard about the OG Nelson from Alpine and today’s version is far and away what Temporarily Permanent is. Nelson is soft and juicy. I like it too and buy it when it’s not too old. Temporarily Permanent was a pleasure for sure. Thanks to my BA Bro. Y’all keep shipping to Texas! Thanks California Brewers!! Russian River… ?

Sweet Nelson tropical hoppy, hint of rye malty, and a Nelson-dank nose on this one! Yum! Very nice aromatics! Taste follows with a beautifully balanced, Nelson hoppy and grapefruit citrus, piney bitter finish...both sitting on a well-integrated rye malty backbone. This is a fantastic tribute to the OG Alpine Nelson...captures an era of old-school west coast IPAs that finished bitter and a bit dry. Great use of Nelson and rye...and a clean, crushable beer that is so enjoyable to drink. Delicious!

On tap at Green Cheek in Costa Mesa, CA.

So this is a nod to OG Alpine Nelson… And Raul is thinking Gwen Stefani playing Jean Harlow in “The Aviator” - small part, and it was ok and stuff… but let’s be real: nothing tops what’s real. Kanye can hop on as many fake Kim’s as he wants - but none will be what he truly desires in the end. It’s a fine beer… but, yeah, I think I’ve made my point.

Ok, this thang is getting way more lush and tropical… Reviewing it super cold after it was poured is like Kim K before her morning porridge and Instagram filters…
