one of my favorite hops in the game, dont love the new name, but love the botanical, still seeing it out there as hbc 586 too, but this is its name now, and this is a nice showcase of it, double dry hopped, the only hop in here, minimal grain and yeast personality in this too, so its really all about this varietal in a very contemporary type ipa. lighter than golden in the glass, just a little unfiltered looking but real light overall, more pils than conventional ipa, could be only pils malt in this, really tight and clean, lightly earthy but way out of the way, and light in body, surprised to see this as strong as it is, drinks more like 5% abv to me, quick and effortless, pushed on by excited carbonation too. it smells like sliced pineapple, zested lemon, floral white wine, and a high thiol type up front fruity intensity, some dankness too though, and not without bitterness. good water chemistry, not quite mineral forward but clean in the way that makes it seem careful and professional, assertive hops but not overdone, light coconut, green grape, and pear skin as it warms a little, off dry to me. the flavor is punchy right away, white sangria meets sweet orange, mango, and lychee, lots going on with these hops, a little less herbal than they have been in other beers in my experience, more tropical here, more up front too, almost a cryo kick, do they make cryo krush already? traces of things that arent fruit here too though, vanilla as a flower, light menthol, and wildflower honey, and a pretty long flavor climax through basically the first two thirds of this, then the bitterness kicks up as the fruitiness fades out, some oils lingering, some light cereal character, and a nice juicy recall that has me quickly seeking another sip. very well executed here and a rather intense showcase of this hop, simplicity in terms of ingredients but some real nuance to the end product, lots to like about this one!
