Flavorful and smooth, turning to lager doesn't mean that blandness in inherent. Maiden City looks to the traditions of the Mexican-styled Vienna Lager for inspiration for their lager portfolio, because... why not?
¿Por Qué No? jumps right out with a toasty amber color while showing bright brilliance in clarity. Streaming bubbles fuel an eggshell froth that hosts the savory and spicy aromas of toast, nuttiness, cola and citrus. Its malty taste sets the tone with an off-caramel approach to honey, toast and nutty flavors to start.
As the flavors develop, the sweetness slowly fade and the more toasty, nutty and bread crust flavors gain prominence. Trending slightly citursy with lime and grapefruit, the taste develops a peppery bitterness that's herbal, woodsy and peppery with a hop profile that only balances the fading sweetness and little more.
Medium-light on the palate, the beer finishes malty-dry and with a slight linger of sweetness that keeps the hops balanced and the attention on a dry malt taste. A medium length afterglow of cola and nuttiness persists only to keep the hops company.
