This beer pours a pure black color with a tan head that has that Guinness “rising carbonation bubbles turning into a creamy, luxurious head” thingie going on, and it is BEAUTIFUL, IMHO.
The nose has a nice roasty malt aroma, with a bit of coffee and a LOT of sweet cream. The brewery’s describes this as Tiramisu, and that is accurate, IMHO, because it is more of a dessert beer on the nose than a traditional RIS.
The taste is likewise on the sweeter side vs a traditional RIS, with that sweet cream flavor leading the roasty malt and coffee flavors, and there’s a bit of stone fruit as well. This is actually a really tasty imperial stout (13.1% ABV), even if it strays from its RIS roots.
The mouthfeel is rich, creamy, and decadent. This is my first beer from this brewery, and I’m a fan - I’d seek this out, along with the base beer.
