a helles lager spiked with ginger, lemon, and lime. better in theory than it is in the glass, still an idea i really like, but the execution is lacking a little bit for me here. i want my helles to be bright, thats literally what it means, and this is kind of frosted looking, tired feeling, and not as active and fun in texture as i like the style, not as dry in the finish either, and the adjuncts are intense enough that they end up kind of taking over the delicate nature of the base beer, i dont taste much of its classic german maltiness or its supposedly crisp lager yeast, instead i get some citric acidity from the lemon and lime, fresh but also a little metallic somehow, and i get the spiciness of the ginger that also seems to carry a little sweetness with it, its not unnatural, but its not like the essence of these ingredients either, and i think it comes across a little forced and out of balance. that said, its light in feel, still plenty drinkable, and a neat twist on an old classic. if they make this one again, i bet it will get better and better. tons of potential here...
