-6.5% on draft at location. Zed style glass.
A: A unique combination of specialty malts gives this a dark appearance, sort of like a brown to dark Octoberfest style amber coloring. Malty appearance with a dark khaki colored head that was firm and creamy with a spongy texture. Capping was moderately lasting. Micro-bubble carbonation.
S: Aroma of fresh citrus is backed by some floral fruit. Hints of spicy lemon and a fresh herbal floweriness from the hops. Light grainy toastiness from the specialty grains, sweet, almost octoberfest like.
T: Octoberfest/brown style malting, sweet, toasty, some cola spiciness adds the backbone along with some nuttiness. Small touches of earthy woodiness and caramel raisin with a toasted warmth, while the hops take a back seat to the malt. Light earthy fruit, spicy cola, brown ale style/octoberfest malting is the highlight here, dried toffee-caramel.
M: Mouthful was grainy nutty malts, again Octoberfest/brown ale like. Softly carbonated.
O: Overall an almost hoppy octoberfest, nutty and caramel malting, lightly accented by mosaic hops provide a soft and floral nature to the earthy dark malts. Props for innovation into a darker and more bready mindset, definitely more malt forward with less emphasis on the hop program. Labeled as a summertime tan ipa, just as much home as a fall style malt wise.
