Date of 03/11/21 on sticker on 750ml bottle. Paid $12.99 in a store. I like just about everything about Unmapped Brewery except the price they want for 6-packs, and the people that visit the taproom.
Pitch black color in the glass with a finger of dense head that slowly settles to a thick cap. Aroma of chocolate, graham crackers, coffee, and slight smoke. This beer tastes way too sweet. Cloying and sticky and I don't like it. Took two sips and I am basically done enjoying this beer and now it is just slogging through. Think more Dark Lord than Darkness in sweetness. This beer boasts 80 IBUs and it is not enough. One interesting component about the flavor is the amount of licorice I get, reminds me of Expedition. Full bodied and nicely carbonated, feels like a world class stout. I guess if you like your RIS on the sweet side, this may appeal to you, otherwise I would warn to stay away. I could not finish the bottle, Not because it was too much alcohol, but it was just too sweet.
