Taking a break from the typical cider making, the Pivot brewing team take on the style of beer that put American craft beer on the map in the 1980's. Their pale ale is a standard yet clean exemplification of the style without veering far from the beaten path.
The Goth pours with a standard hazy amber appearance, crowned with a frothy white cap. Its hop tilted aromas tease the senses with appetizing citrus, spruce and granola. It's those granola characteristics that carry onto the early palate with lightly toasted malts, pecan, caramel and a light gloss of honey.
Sweetness gradually retreats and the hops begin to take command of taste as well. A hoppy middle palate carries the taste of pink grapefruit, orange peel and a hint of apricot and mango. Trending moderately bitter on the late palate, the ripe fruitiness develops the bite of citrus peel, freshly shaven pine and a light grassy grip on the throat.
Medium bodied and retaining a moderately mild grain character, the balance falls on the hops but not entirely. A hop derived astringency plays on the finish like hop leaf, stem and an overall fresh woodsy spice. A medium length aftertaste is mostly pine but partly toasted barley. Its simply a solid and understated choice.
