On draught at the brewery.
A dark pour with a thin collar and random lacing.
Dark roasted barley malt, the vanilla bean and honey broaden the fairly rich flavor profile.
A slight earthy aspect, peppery notes become pronounced as the beer warms a bit.
The hops selection was well chosen. Interesting and somewhat complex.
Mouthfeel is full bodied and smooth.
The bourbon barrel flavor aspects are subtle, and that’s better than being over done IMO.
The flavor masks the 9.5% ABV well.
A well crafted Imperial Stout.

12 oz bottle from the brewery's taproom in Maryland.
While the aroma is disappointing, the flavor is good. Honey adds a sweet note to this mildly bitter stout while the vanilla adds a suggestion of barrel aging, perhaps with help from some burnt, smokey grains.
Mouthfeel. Thick body that's slightly oily and syrupy.

Off-putting smell and taste. Bad bottle? Not at all what expected from honey and vanilla.

Pretty sweet, but not overly so. Really enjoyed this. Growler fill at Gilly's in Rockville, MD.
