pours out a dark mahogany clour with a thin fine off white head. slight rings of lace. subdued aroma of light cocoa and toffee...hints of spice float around, too. you can detect the hopping in the nose too...noble variety. this is a regular bock beer, and the flavour profile backs that up. not too much going on here...light maltiness reminds me of drinking coca-cola. soft cocoa and caramel flavours...some minty hops. hints of spicy alcohol...i would never guess this as 7.2 ABV. it blurs the line between a dark lager and a bock. thinish mouthfeel but extremely smooth. it's highly drinkable but just not a lot of flavour. strictly within the bock style, it's ok. it screams crossover beer for those not accustomed to the the bock and doppelbock style.

i believe i enjoyed the saxer bock more than this dark bock. this would wash down some steak or other grilled delights quite nicely...especially in the fall when the weather cools down and the o-fests are in season.

a nice beer, but not outstanding.

The beer pours crystal clear brown with amber highlights. The head is tan, large, and in charge. It takes quite some time to fall and laces the glass.

The aroma is chocolate with sweet malt and slight dark fruit aroma.

The flavor is chocolate and slightly winey. It has a fruity flavor component as well. Also just a hit of coffee flavor.

The finish is dry and slightly bitter with a chocolate flavor that lasts on the palate. The body is medium to medium full.

12 ounce bottle. (label says microbrewed malt liquor at bottom)

This is the first Dark Bock I have ever had, but it's a good brew as far as beers go. It's a nice super dark amber color, almost the color of blood. The head was big a frothy at first, but then died down to a semi-thick laceing. The color of the head was a tan color. The smell was just like a porter or stout, but a little less pungent. I really had to smell hard to get it, but when I did, it was pleasant. The taste was very full and stouty. You could definately taste the chocolate malts and coffee taste. I liked it. It's a good beer for warming up to.

This one came in a mix 12 pack of MacTarnahan's. Pours dark brown with ruby highlights. The aroma is light in malty with a touch of breadiness. The flavor has a light malt taste and again a bit of bread. There is not a whole lot to this one. It is a medium-full bodied beer that is easy drinking. I wouldn’t search this one out.

Ok bough in a six pack of 12 oz brown long necks at the "cheapo canned food warehouse" place..$3.99..a little past spring but here goes..
Wow this is one handsome looking beer, not pretty this has a manly look to it! A dark ruby/garnet red with a lovelly off white head..that goies but leaves some nice lacing..beautiful.
Smell is rather a step down from the looks but it seems to be reasonably malty and fresh.
Taste is malty but there is a "grapfruit" hop flavour too..I cannot taste the high alcohol though..well hidden.
Was rather dissapointed by the mouthfeel it ended half way over my tongue then nothing,,feel cheated!
A drinkable enough beer..but could have been way better.

Deep red brown color, small head. A dunkel bock. Pronounced roasted malts, slightly hoppy spiciness/sweetness. Even though it's a 7.2% beer, there is not a lot of alcohol bite, lots of flavor. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is smooth. Aftertaste is malty and hoppy, very little bitterness.

The beer is deep, clear scarlet red. Beautiful color. Beige head is slight, but well-retained. Lacing is adequate. This beer smells malty, chalky and rummy. Interesting mix, but it's not overbearing, just not what I think of when sniffing a dopple. Body is light for a Dopple. Maybe it's teetering on medium at best. Carbonation seems about right. Flavor is dry, grainy, a little roasty, malty and a little spicy to boot (from the hops I believe). Average dopple, but worth a try. Nothing bad is going on here.

Thanks Coozer....ya boozer.

At 7.2 % this stradles right up there in doppelbock range but really lacks a lot of doppelbock characteristics...let's just call it a regular bock..not as good as the Saxer Bock I had previously.

Pours a ruby reddish brown color...virtually nothing for head or lacing...nose is really light (a drawback)...I just got a whiff a caramel sweetness but it is very light..also some good breadiness......body is bock like rather than doppelbock like..actually bock light like....very thin in the motuh..watery.....A soft roasty flavor...some chocolate too...more roasty than bready...nice flavor...nothing to jump up and down about though...

Overall this is an average bock I' wouldn't buy again...Their regular Saxer Bock is better as are several other bocks....the 7.2% ABV is very hidden...a six pack of this would slide down nicely as a session beer (although the watery mouthfeel may cause some problems) and I'm guesing you wouldn't need many more after that...
