Introduced in the DC tasting room and Bay Area retailers on draught over fifteen years ago Silicon Blonde remains one of DC's most popular brews today. Packaged in cans for the first time in 2020 with a gentle brand update, the label's golden statue looks over the Silicon Valley from the present to the past, reflecting on the juxtaposition of the Bay Area's farm and technology cultures. Silicon Blonde is medium bodied with a pleasant rolling texture, honey toast notes with a little bit of hop in the finish. Very approachable and easy drinking.

Tried this one because I think their Scotch Ale is excellent, so they have earned my respect.
This was an OK blonde, but not special in any way. I could def drink a few of these on a hot summer day, but don't think I would search it out.

On tap at the brewery on Beer Friday.

A - Golden-blond color with a white head.

S - Aroma of grain and pale malt. Like a not very exciting blond ale (and hey, that's exactly what it is!)

T - Somewhat grainy and slightly pilsner-like in a way with grassy hops, maybe a little caramel malt thrown in too, but only a tiny bit if it all.

M - Not bad for the style, but definitely not "full-bodied" as they say it is. Medium-bodied at best.

D - This is a style that can be fairly drinkable due to its being so light. This beer is only average for the style in that regard though.

Overall, incredibly average in every aspect, at best. Not bad for the style though.

Appearance - Pale yellow, nearly lagerish in appearance, with a wispy white head that disappeared entirely too fast.

Smell - Subtle pale malts, fairly odorless and bland.

Taste and mouthfeel - Crisp and semi-sweet with a light, slightly watery body. No hops to be found anywhere, with a dry, flavorless finish. I didn't detect any of the adjuncts that the previous reviewer did, and I highly doubt that the brewery uses any. Nonetheless, it's very bland stuff.

Notes - Every brewery needs a session beer, but this is simply not up to par. Try the Scotch ale instead.

05/03/05- On tap at Pudley's Bar and Grill in San Carlos, CA

Presentation- From the tap poured into a pint glass.

Appearance- Fuller golden color, small head and average lacing.

Smell- Very macro-ish scent. Light on the malt and hops. Maybe a bit of rice?

Taste- Very light malt background with a tart bitter hop presence. Kind of a toasted cardboard taste to it.

Mouthfeel- Mid to higher carbonation with a bit of a seltzery mouthfeel.

Drinkability- Not very impressed with this blonde. I finished it, but it was a chore.
