Huge over-carbonated head which takes up the entire glass. It settles very slowly and leaves large bubbled, lumpy splotches of sticky lace. Hazy, with a brown-hued, deep amber color.
Tart cherry and pine resin notes. Definite alcohol boozy nose.
Beyond the tart cherry, I get a lot of yeast bite. It lands on me like a home brew. The alcohol is more muted than the smell indicates. Frankly, this has no Kölsch elements--the adjuncts are overpowering. The body is too thick for a Kölsch, but standard for most pale ales. Again, the carbonation is way over the top. (Side note: I had two can explode in the trunk of my car on a very hot day.) The aftertaste is mostly tart, but it is short, time-wise. Overall, I would describe this more like a mildly tart wheat beer. Still, the carbonation is simply too much to make this beer work in the end.
